The Senate Finance Committee on October 13 approved the “America’s Healthy Future Act” by a vote of 14 to 9. All Democrats and one Republican approved the legislation. The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the bill would make $829 billion investment in the health care system over ten years. When the legislation is in full effect 94 percent of the population will have insurance coverage through an employer-sponsored program. The legislation includes insurance market reforms to provide more coverage options to individuals. Individuals would be required either to purchase health insurance or in 2014, pay an annual penalty.

This article is about how the Democratics and Republicans have found a common ground in the debate about the Healthcare reofrm bill. Unfortunately, they are untied by their dislike with the central part of the legislation which is that every American should have healthcare insurance. The Republicans say that forcing people to buy health insurance is a violation of individual liberty. The Demorats say that it would be to much of a difficulty for those of the working class, who would have to pay 12% of their income. Both sided have a point though.

Massachusetts reform mainly relies on a combination of regulation and subsidies to chivy a mostly private system into providing near-universal coverage. This i what gives congress hope. They think that the reform will still fail. If they think that then that mean they just need to come up with a better one and not settle for less because that is why we need them.

A main argument was that a public plan would save people money. It would not be under pressure to earn profits, pay high private-sector salaries or deny needed care.The public plan intended to compete with private insurers on a “level playing field” would come up short. This great debate keeps going on and on but when will it come to a decision. I think that when we do come to a final closing there will still be a debate and issues.
